Black Ops Escalation will head to PlayStation Network and the Steam service a month from now.
You’ve heard of Black Ops’ Escalation Map Pack coming to Xbox Live first on May 3rd. One of the biggest stories to come out of the announcement of Escalation is not just the massive wealth of information about Call of the Dead, but also the fact that Activision went all out with Call of the Dead – it features some of the biggest Hollywood names.
SANTA MONICA, Calif., April 26, 2011 – Activision Publishing, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATVI) and Treyarch revealed today that famed horror and action stars Robert Englund, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Michael Rooker and Danny Trejo have joined the cast of Call of Duty: Black Ops Escalation’s zombie level, Call of the Dead. The Call of the Dead zombie level and four all new multiplayer maps make up the second content pack, Escalation, for the record-setting game Call of Duty: Black Ops, launching first on Xbox LIVE on May 3rd. Dedicated to creating a Zombie experience like never before, the Call of the Dead storyline is inspired by none other than legendary horror writer and director, George A. Romero, who also stars as himself in the new level.
“Our latest zombie creation, Call of the Dead, is unreal!” says Mark Lamia, Studio Head of Treyarch. “We set out to create an exciting new zombie experience for fans of the genre that takes Zombies to an insane new level.”
“This is Treyarch’s tribute to the legendary George Romero, who truly defined the zombie genre and whose incredible work has been such an inspiration to our team,” says Dave Anthony, Call of Duty: Black Ops Director. “It was an absolute honor to work with such an amazing and talented cast whose passion and energy brought their characters instantly to life. Fans are going to love this.”
In addition to George A. Romero, whose credits include Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead and Land of the Dead, he is joined by Sarah Michelle Gellar, whose credits include the hit TV series, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Cruel Intentions; Robert Englund, best known for originating the role of Freddy Krueger in the successful Nightmare on Elm Street franchise; Michael Rooker, most recently acclaimed for his work on AMC’s horror drama The Walking Dead; and Danny Trejo, who starred in 2010′s action-thriller Machete.
Published by Activision and developed by Treyarch, Call of Duty: Black Ops is rated “M” (Mature) by the ESRB for Blood and Gore, Intense Violence and Strong Language. Call of Duty: Black Ops Escalation content pack will launch first on Xbox LIVE on May 3rd. For additional Call of Duty updates and information, visit us on the web at the official Call of Duty website, and the official Call of Duty: Black Ops Facebook page, and also via Twitter @Treyarch.
Treyarch has been on a roll lately, selling 7 million units of Call of Duty: Black Ops in just 24 hours of sale. On the first week, Black Ops grossed 650 million dollars in the first week, and in just six weeks of sale, it raked 1 billion dollars in retail sales. In January, the first map pack was released, and sold more than 1.5 million. It’s a no brainer that Treyarch would release a new map pack. Today, Treyarch showed off the 5 new maps that will come with Escalation:
If you want to know what the maps are:
Battle it out in “Hotel”, on the roof of a Cuban luxury hotel and casino against the vivid backdrop of old Havana; “Convoy” delivers intense, close-quarters combat at the scene of an ambushed US military convoy; “Zoo” takes you on a wild ride in an abandoned Soviet Russian Zoo, with danger at every turn; “Stockpile” pits players in a remote Russian farm town housing secret WMD facilities.
So, what’s your decision? Escalation is going on Xbox Live first on May 3rd, and will cost at least 1200MSP.
Its been a month since First Strike has been revealed to the general public. In that time, PS3 got the First Strike “Content Pack.” Following that, PC users got First Strike, too. So, right now, everyone has Black Ops First Strike.
I would like to show the videos they released to the public in that time:
Ancension is a map that pits you inside a Russian asylum of sorts. Its basically a monkey test lab where they test their perfection, or send them to the outer space. Billed as the “authentic Russian Cosmonaut Monkey Zombies.” Enjoy:
Secondly, there’s also Berlin Wall. Treyarch released a music video for Berlin Wall, kind of odd for a first person shooter trailer ….I think. In any case, Berlin Wall puts you in Berlin’s battlefield, with buildings and whatnot. Enjoy:
Call of Duty keeps getting bigger, bigger, and bigger. In 2009, Modern Warfare 2 garnered 550 million dollars in sales – taking the throne for the best selling video game of all time from Gran Theft Auto IV. This is merely just in one week. Well, in 2010, Activision outdone themselves by racking up 650 million dollars in just a week, barely even a week.
Activision and Microsoft made a deal in June. This contract between the two parties means that from Modern Warfare 2′s Map Packs on, the DLC’s that Activision develops are entirely time-exclusive to Microsoft’s Xbox Live platform. This means that for exactly one month, any DLC that Activision releases is exclusive to Microsoft’s green console.
Black Ops’ first Map Pack dubbed “First Strike” actually the third Map Pack to release under the agreement between Microsoft and Activision. Treyarch, the subsidiary of Acivision released a trailer talking about the Map Pack:
Treyarch released, yet another trailer, but only showing off the maps themselves, and some gameplay footage using the maps. It shows off some new gameplay mechanics:
With only a day away from release (tomorrow is Feb 1st), a user managed to get their hands on First Strike, and showed off the Zombie map called “Ascension.”
It will cost you 1200 or $15. What you get in this “Content Pack” is 4 Multiplayer Maps, and one co-op map for the Zombie mode in Black Ops. Treyarch says that the DLC is more than just a map pack.
We are 9 days away from the release of Black Ops! It is a Call of Duty game from Treyarch. It will ship to retailers nationwide for Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii, PlayStation 3, PC. November 9th is going to be a very busy day for Activision and retailers who plan to carry Black Ops. Are you ready? Because millions and millions of players are awaiting the release of Black Ops!
